Aleksanterinkatu bridge

“Seitti” forms a permanent landmark in Lahti for the European Environmental City 2021. The ecological and recyclable choice of materials with a sustainable structure connect the bridge to the theme of the jubilee year.

Aleksanterinkatu’s new bridge forms a minimalist element to the main street view in the city center. The light and airy structure of the bridge gives space to the downtown streetscape and creates an unique space. The structure and visual appearance of the bridge refer to local, respected furniture design and wood industry.

The clear lines of the bridge are based on a combination of optimised structure. The solid and and discreetly lit wooden decks create a warm space both on the bridge and below it on the streetscape. The transparency and lightness of the bridge are based on a network of thin steel structures, which bind the two wooden decks together into a stiff structure. The bridge creates a warm and airy street space in the place. Light four-pronged pillars visually connect the intermediate supports as part of the line of street trees.
